The 7 Biggest Lies About God and Their 3 Causes

The topic about GOD is perhaps the least understood, most debated, most confusing, and most controversial topic of all — even among Bible-believing Christians (surprisingly). Yet, it’s obviously THE most important topic! Everyone should get to know God very well.

Beliefs about God range from only one God Being to three God Beings. Which is correct? Some also contend that Jesus Christ was only a man, while others say He is also God. Which is really correct? And how can we prove these claims?

We wouldn’t be surprised if most have already made up their minds. They may not care to read any further, lest the truth disturb and contradict their long-held beliefs. But if what you believe is really true, you shouldn’t fear, because the truth will always prevail. To just intentionally ignore the subject is intellectual dishonesty. Instead, it would just make Satan happy to keep humans continually blinded spiritually. Please remember that, apart from being a murderer, he is also the “father of lies” (John 8:44).

Christ said, “the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). Even from prejudice? Let’s be open-minded before making or returning to our own conclusions.

But first, why is there so much confusion and ignorance? Let us begin to objectively examine the three most influential causes.

1. Massive Satanic Deception

Let us not be naïve. The great confusion and ignorance on this subject is mainly caused by an angry, hateful, clever, cunning, yet invisible spirit deceiver called Satan the Devil. He has spiritually blinded the MINDS (not necessarily the physical eyes) of practically most people in this world. And because of mankind’s spiritual blindness, most don’t even know they are deceived, nor can they see the problem at all. Everything just seems normal to most. It takes God’s revelation to inform us about such massive deception (Revelation 12:9). Yet that great Deceiver has even the gall to misrepresent himself as “the god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4).

2. Abandoning or Ignoring God’s Real Names

The wisest man who ever lived (King Solomon) asked the most basic questions about God when he wrote:

Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, If you know?
~Proverbs 30:4

Isn’t it true that one of the first and most important things we want to know about a person is his or her real name? But because most of Christianity has carelessly abandoned this very important protocol — and just ignorantly substituted such with a man-made name (in place of the true name) — it has somehow lost the true knowledge and understanding of the true nature of God.

Even in the human realm, once you change the name of a certain object or location (place), it becomes difficult to know exactly what is being referred to. How much more by changing a person’s (or a Divine Being’s) true name? He becomes unknown or can even be misrepresented for someone else. That person’s identity is simply lost. This fact is just plain and simple. And this has somehow affected our concept of, or the quest for the true knowledge and understanding of “God.”

3. Blindness to the Meaning of God’s True Names

If only Christianity has not been deceived and misled by Satan, there would have been less problem in understanding the true nature, identities, and relationships between God the Father and the Son, and in properly understanding the seemingly conflicting verses in the Bible.

“ELOHIM” is the revealed generic name for “God” which should have been stated in the Bible. But because of the prevalent Anti-Semitic attitudes (hatred for the Jewish or Israelite people), God’s true names have been both hidden and hated by most Christians even to this day. But this phenomenon exactly fulfills Christ’s prophecy regarding His true name. (Matthew 24:9b; Luke 21:17). [If you somehow hate reading about this name stuff, it just shows that you are also part of Christ’s prophecy. Sorry, I don’t blame you; it’s just a fulfilled fact.]

The name “ELOHIM” (revealed first to the Hebrew people) is a mass noun — like family, group, etc., which literally means “Mighty Ones” (or Powerful Beings). Since in Hebrew grammar, it ends with the suffix “-im,” it is immediately recognized as plural. The singular form is “EL” (or “Eloah”) and it literally means “Mighty One.” Source: http://www.theopedia.com/elohim

God always names beings for what they are, and changes their name when circumstances warrant a change. For example, Abram’s name was eventually changed to Abraham (from “exalted father” to “father of many nations”). Likewise, the original name of Satan (adversary or enemy) was, “Helel” (meaning “shining one”) which Jerome named “Lucifer” in his Latin Vulgate.

Since God names persons or beings for what they are, God’s other name is “YHWH” (which most authorities pronounce as “Yahweh.” It means the “Self-existent, Ever-living, Eternal One.” In the Bible, the usual combination of “LORD God” should be “YHWH Elohim.” This name refers more to the Being who eventually became Jesus Christ in the New Testament, whose correct name should be “Yahshua” which means “God (YHWH) Saves.” It was God the Father Himself Who sent the Angel Gabriel to both Joseph and Mary to command them to give that prescribed name to the Son that was to be born (Matthew 1:21; Luke 1:26, 31). Man is not authorized to change the Name that the Father dictated, but rebellious and blinded humans influenced by Satan did. [A footnote on Matthew 1:21 appears in Appendix 1 at the end of this article.]

When referring specifically to God the Father, the revealed name is “EL ELYON” which literally means “The Most High God.” It was first mentioned in Genesis 14:18-22. It was mentioned about 50x in the Bible and ends being specifically mentioned again in Hebrews 7:1 (which referred to Abram meeting Melchizedek where it was first mentioned).

Some Objections:

Some may object, saying, “But we are not Hebrews”? Please remember that proper nouns (which includes names of persons or beings regardless of where they originated) are never changed at any time or in any place. For example, Albert Einstein or Abraham Lincoln will always be known by their respective names in any place in the world and in any generation in history.

[Apart from this abbreviated write-up, I hope to still write a separate article on this subject.]

The 7 Biggest Lies About God

The list below simply reflects the cumulative effects of the first three causes listed earlier. When propagated even with the lack of true knowledge and proper understanding, such becomes a lie.

1. Belief that “God is (Only) One (Being).”

This is obviously the biggest among the false beliefs about God even to this day. Knowledge of the name “Elohim” alone should have already solved the problem. But satanic deception is real and very active in this world, even among the “chosen people.” Among the Israelites, it is the real fulfillment of the “spirit of slumber” (KJV) — or “stupor” (ESV, NAS, NASB, NIV, NKJ, RSV) or “deep sleep” (NAB, NLT, YLT) — that fell upon them (Romans 11:8). It was predicted by Isaiah (Isaiah 29:10) and confirmed by Christ Himself (Matthew 13:13-15).

Another great influence upon this false doctrinal belief starting during the Middle Ages was the writings of a very popular Jewish philosopher named Moses Maimonides. He wrote “Principle No. 2” in his “Maimonides’ Thirteen Jewish Principles of Faith” where he strongly focused on the “oneness” of God. This strong belief on only one God caused the Jews to reject Christ as an impostor, whom they believed was claiming to be another (second) God. (More information about Maimonides is found in Appendix 2 at the end of this article.)

The primary basis for this false belief is the popularity of the “Shema” which reads: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one” (Deuteronomy 6:4)!

Problem:

At first glance, it seems to say how it reads, until it is intelligently analyzed. But let us remember that there should be no contradictions in the Bible. Christ Himself said, “… the Scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35). Besides, there are many other verses in the Bible which show there is more than one God Being. Basic among these are:

Then God said, “Let Us [plural] make man in Our [plural] image, according to Our [plural] likeness…
~Genesis 1:26

NOTE: The plural words denotes more than one Being.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… He was in the beginning with God.
~John 1:1

NOTE: The word “with” alone shows there is more than one God referred to here, without even having to consider that the Word was also God. And in this case, we have double confirmation on this fact.

Explanation:

Apart from what has just been mentioned above, a correct understanding of the meaning of the word “one” as used in the original Hebrew in this particular verse will clarify the truth. The Hebraic Roots Bible reads:

Hear, O Israel, YAHWEH our Elohim is YAHWEH echad [united as one].
~Deuteronomy 6:4

NOTE: The Hebrew word “echad” [H0259] is a unity word such as when referring to one family. For example, Genesis 2:24 used the word “echad” when referring to a man and his wife becoming “one” flesh. On the other hand, if the intent is to signify numerical singularity, the Hebrew word to be used should have been “yachid” [H3173]. A good example here is Genesis 22:12 when God told Abraham to sacrifice his one or “only” son. The word “yachid” was used in this case (Footnote excerpts: Hebraic Roots Bible).

Conclusion:

When properly understood, Deuteronomy 6:4 does not say there is only one God Being.

2. Belief that “Besides Me There Is No God”

Here are two other verses that are popularly used to support the idea that indeed, there is only one God Being. These verses read:

Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God.
~Isaiah 44:6

Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
~Isaiah 44:8, KJV

Explanation:

The first verse is better and more accurately understood when read from the Hebraic Roots Bible, where it says:

So says YAHWEH, the King of Israel, and His Redeemer, YAHWEH of Hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; and there is no Elohim except Me.
~Isaiah 44:6, Hebraic Roots Bible

NOTE: The simple explanation is that there is no other “Elohim” (Powerful Beings [plural]) apart from “Yahweh” (The Ever-living, Self-Existent, Eternal One) — compared to the idols the people were then worshiping.

[A footnote on Isaiah 44:6 is found in Appendix 3 at the end of this article.]

Wrong Translation of the Word

Now, on the second verse (Isaiah 44:8), only the KJV erroneously translated the Hebrew word “tsur” [H6697]. It actually just means “rock,” but was falsely translated “God.” All other Bible translations correctly render it as “Rock.”

Here is the corrected translation from the NKJ:

Do not tremble; do not be afraid. Have I not proclaimed from ages past what my purposes are for you? You are my witnesses — is there any other God? No! There is no other Rock — not one!
~Isaiah 44:8

NOTE: Regarding Isaiah 44:8 — except for the KJV — all other translations render “God” in the last phrase as “Rock.” Rock is symbolic of a strong refuge, but they are limited. This verse is still within the full context of what we discussed in Isaiah 44:6 above.

Conclusion:

The correct word used for God here is “Elohim” which means Powerful Beings (plural). Therefore, it is not just talking about one Being, but more than one. Apart from that, God (Elohim) is being compared to the dumb idols of iron and wood made by those craftsmen in Israel which can never compare to the God (Elohim) of Israel.

3. Belief that “Besides Me There Is No Savior”

The following verse is also used in support of the “Only One God (Being) Teaching.”

I, even I, am the LORD, And besides Me there is no savior.
~Isaiah 43:11

NOTE: There is another verse saying almost the same thing. That is Isaiah 45:21.

Explanation:

Obviously, there is only ONE Savior, Jesus the Christ, Who alone died for our sins. And let us remember, God (Elohim) is more than one Divine Being, the Father being distinct from the Son. These verses also prove that Christ was the active God in the Old Testament.

4. Belief that God the Father and the Son Are One and the Same

This belief is part of the “Oneness” or Unitarian doctrine.

One of their strongest supports for this doctrine is this verse:

I and My Father are one.
~John 10:30

NOTE: If that is the intent, the grammar should have been “is one.”

However, this myopic view of Scripture is immediately contradicted just four chapters away, when Christ Himself said, “My Father is greater than I” (John 14:28b). Logically, if one entity is greater than the other, they cannot both be one and the same entity.

Another major point claimed is when Phillip asked Christ to show them the Father. Here was Christ’s reply:

Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
~John 14:8-11

Analysis of These Verses:

Christ’s statement indicates that He and the Father look like identical twins. Colossians 1:15 and Hebrews 1:3 say that Christ is the exact or “express image” of the invisible God. If twins are possible among humans, there is no reason why that is not also possible with Elohim (family). The statement: “I am in the Father, and the Father in Me” is not literal because Christ was obviously on earth, while the Father was in heaven. But this statement can easily be understood because in our case, Christ said, the Holy Spirit “dwells with you and shall be in you” (John 14:17). Yet obviously, we are NOT one and the same as the Holy Spirit.

Understanding Spiritual Unity

Therefore, when Christ said those words about Him and the Father, it did not mean that He and the Father were one and the same bodily. This is not talking about numerical unity, but rather spiritual unity. Not long after this event, Christ prayed to the Father concerning His disciples, saying: “That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us…” (John 17:21). Obviously, Christ was not literally in the bodies of His disciples — neither were the bodies of His disciples in His own body.

Other Reasons Why the Father and Son Are Not One Bodily:

From Genesis to Revelation, we have numerous verses contradicting this belief.

Here are just a few examples:

Genesis 1:26 used a few plural pronouns: Let “us”; “our” image; “our” likeness.

NOTE: Some would claim that God was talking to an angel. But angels (like Cherubim) are giant creatures, with wingspans as long as 30 feet (20 cubits) (2 Chronicles 3:11). Not only that, but they have wheels, and four faces on its head, apart from having four wings each (Ezekiel 10:14, 21). Also, angels like Seraphim have six wings each (Isaiah 6:2). None of those creatures ever look like any of us, humans. But the Messiah, when He was on earth, looked just like us. Thus, it was the God Beings (Elohim) talking together.

Likewise, it would be illogical for Christ to be praying to Himself — if it’s indeed true that He was also the Father at the same time (John 17).

Please also consider this important fact. If there is only one combined God Being, then wouldn’t it be logical that when Christ died, the Father also died? But since the Father raised Christ from the dead, He couldn’t be the Christ, too (Romans 8:11).

Conclusion:

The Father and the Son are NOT one and the same God Being.

5. Belief that “There Are Three God Beings”

The best and simplest way to check and determine with finality the veracity of this false doctrine is to refer directly to some of the statements and visions revealed in Scripture:

Clear Statement Revealed to King David of Israel:

The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”
~Psalm 110:1

A declaration of YAHWEH to my Adonai: Sit at My right hand, until I place Your enemies as Your footstool.
~Psalm 110:1, Hebraic Roots Bible

(FOOTNOTE: The word for “Lord” or Master in Hebrew is “Adon.” However, when it is pluralized and vowel-pointed as “ADONAI,” this can only be referring to Elohim, and here the Messiah is referred to as Adonai. It also shows that there are two Elohim Beings. One being, Yahweh the Father, sitting on His throne in heaven and Yahshua the Son sitting off to His right hand, showing equality with the Father (Philippians 2:6; Matthew 26:64; Acts 2:33; Acts 7:55-56; Hebrews 1:3; 8:1; 10:10-13; 12:2; 1 Peter 3:22; Romans 8:34. Source: Hebraic Roots Bible)

CONCLUSION: There are only two Divine Beings described here.

Three Independent Visions — Shown to Daniel, Stephen, and John

I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him.
~Daniel 7:13

NOTE: Only two Divine Beings are seen in the vision here.

But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed steadily upward into heaven and saw the glory of God, and he saw Jesus standing in the place of honor at God’s right hand.
~Acts 7:55

NOTE: Only two Divine Beings are seen in the vision here.

To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
~Revelation 3:21

NOTE: Only two Divine Beings are seen in the vision here.

Conclusion:

There is never a “Third Being” appearing in all these visions or biblical statements. Notice also that in all the 14 Epistles considered written by the apostle Paul, he never mentioned the Holy Spirit in any of his 14 salutations. This fact is a very strong piece of evidence that Paul did not consider the Holy Spirit as a God that is worthy of salutations, worship, or devotion.

6. Belief that “Christ Is Just a Man — Not also Fully God”

Among dozens, here are 7 proofs that the Son of God is GOD:

1. Since Christ is properly referred to as LORD God (YHWH Elohim), He is God. (John 20:28)

2. Since the Father gave Him the name “Yahshua,” He is God. No human can be a Savior (Matthew 1:21; Luke 2:11).

3. Since He did various miracles, including raising a four-day-dead person to life again, He is God (John 11:17, 39).

4. Since He was in the beginning with God and called God, He is God (John 1:1-2).

5. Since He created all things, both visible and invisible, He is God (John 1:3; Colossians 1:15).

6. The Son is praised as “God” even by the Father Himself:

But to the Son He says: “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your Kingdom.”
~Hebrews 1:8

7. The following titles can apply only to a God Being:

For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
~Isaiah 9:6, NASB

CONCLUSION: Christ the Messiah is truly a God Being.

7. Belief that “The God of the Old Testament is the Father”

Please carefully consider these words uttered by Christ Himself, in these verses:

No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
~John 1:18

And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.
~John 5:37

Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
~John 8:58 (please also see Exodus 3:14, 15)

(For more details and biblical proofs on this subject concerning Christ, please read the article: “Who Was the God of the Old Testament” published on this website.)

The true identity of the Holy Spirit will be covered in another article on this website.

Summary

In spite of His Eternal, Majestic, and Glorious Greatness, even the “Most High God” — known as the Father or “El Elyon” the Possessor of Heaven and Earth and all things (Genesis 14:19) — can be reached by us through simple prayer alone. What a great blessing!

And the equally Eternal and Majestic Creator God (John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:16), Who will soon come to reign as KING of Kings and LORD of Lords (Revelation 17:14; 19:16) — but Who almost 2,000 years ago voluntarily (Philippians 2:6-8) offered Himself as the ultimate sacrifice in a horribly excruciating death — has always been LORD God (YHWH Elohim) from the beginning, but now continually serves us as our merciful High Priest, who also intercedes for us before God’s heavenly throne (Hebrews 4:14-16; 7:25; 9:11).

Meanwhile, both sent the Spirit of God which is also the Spirit of Christ (Romans 8:9) to be our Comforter to help us be sanctified while awaiting the promised eternal life, so we can be part of God’s eternal ruling Kingdom.

Conclusion

These two Most Magnanimous Super Divine Beings have revealed very great plans to make us eventually part of Their Eternal Kingdom and Family as children of God, to also live and rule in their Kingdom forever (1 John 3:1,2). But for now, our human mind is limited in fully comprehending all that these Divine Beings have in store for us (1 Corinthians 2:9).

Hopefully, the spiritual blindness and deceptions concerning the true nature of God have now been removed from your mind. Please continue to pray for more spiritual enlightenment and the blessings of understanding through this website.

Appendix 1

Footnote on Matthew 1:21

The name Yahshua means “Yahweh’s salvation.” By stating His name and then showing what the name means (“He will save His people from their sins”) clearly shows an Aramaic writing style that does not exist in Greek. The name “Jesus” has no such etymology in Greek and comes from “Ieasous” which is the masculine form of the pagan goddess of healing “Ieasa.” (Source: Hebraic Roots Bible).

There is more discussion and research on the subject of “Jesus” in the Explanatory Notes section of the Institute for Scripture Research Bible, page 1223.

Appendix 2

Moses Maimonides, original name Moses Ben Maimon, also called Rambam, Arabic name Abū ʿImran Mūsā ibn Maymūn ibn ʿUbayd Allāh (born March 30, 1135, Córdoba [Spain] — died December 13, 1204, Egypt), Jewish philosopher, jurist, and physician, the foremost intellectual figure of medieval Judaism.

Chapter 9: Maimonides’ Thirteen Principles of Jewish Faith (Pages 156-163)

Principle No. 2 “I believe by complete faith that the Creator, blessed be His name, is a Unity, and there is no union in any way like Him. He alone is our God, who was, who is, and who is to be.” —Maimonides

Maimonides’ admiration for the neo-Platonic commentators led him to doctrines which the later Scholastics did not accept. For instance, Maimonides was an adherent of “negative theology” (also known as “Apophatic theology”). In this theology, one attempts to describe God through negative attributes… We should not say that “God is One,” but we can state that “there is no multiplicity in God’s being.” In brief, the attempt is to gain and express knowledge of God by describing what God is not, rather than by describing what God “is.”
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maimonides

Appendix 3

NOTE: As we have learned earlier, there are two YHWHs revealed in the Bible. But the One speaking here is not the “El Elyon” (or God Most High), but rather the One Who Mediates between God and man, eventually called in the New Testament as the Christ. He has assumed three titles here: the “King of Israel,” also the “Redeemer of Israel” (because as Savior, He later redeemed humanity with His own blood), and He is also called the “LORD (YHWH) of Hosts,” Who has invisibly fought Israel’s battles. What is crucial in understanding this verse is that there is no other Elohim (plural, God Family) in comparison to the iron and wooden idols being made by the craftsmen in Israel. Reading the rest of chapter 44 will enlighten the reader with what Isaiah was trying to compare.

  1. Yes because of wrong interpretation of preterist and futurist believing all prophecies are fulfilled in 70 AD and the commandments with it! Only few denominations are still observing Sabbath on Saturday!

    • Hello Joe,
Thanks for your astute comments. Yes, some people are sadly deceived into thinking that all prophecies have already been fulfilled in 70 A.D. Such people are surprisingly very much deluded in their own thinking. Any person with a rational mind just cannot believe such blatant false claims. There are dozens of major prophecies that still needs to be fulfilled. In fact, most of the remaining prophecies still awaits fulfillment, even as we await for Christ’s glorious and visible coming to really set up His Kingdom on this earth, and solve all current worldwide problems.
      May that day come soon…
Thanks once again, and regards to your family, Joe.

  2. ELOHIM is plural. Does it then also mean that its possible The Holy Spirit (Spirit Of GOD) is Part of ELOHIM? I don’t use the Word Trinity or Triune. I have never seen it in Scriptures. Plus I don’t like Using Three Persons, Cos Only YESHUA has a body. GOD is Spirit. I just accept scripture and what I don’t see in it I don’t use (recently though, I didn’t really care initially about doctrines).

    Reply
    • Hi Lois,

The Holy Spirit is the POWER of Elohim. It is not another “person.” You’re right that the word trinity or triune is not found in Scripture. As you correctly observed, the Bible does not teach that there are three persons, but only two at the moment: The Father (Abba YHWH El Elyon), and His Son Yahshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ).
